American Visitors

International Visitors

International visitors to Canada (not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents) must carry a valid passport and, if required, a visa. More information is available through Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Local Taxes

Alberta is the only province in Canada with no Provincial Sales Tax. Alberta does have a 4% Tourism Levy and, in Calgary, a 3% Destination Marketing Fee on hotel accommodation, and a 5% federal Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program

The Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program provides a rebate for GST paid on a convention facility and related convention supplies. More information is available through the Canada Revenue Agency.
