Teachers’ conventions have been established through legislation in the province for the purpose of providing teachers with forums whereby they can renew their professional skills on an annual basis.

Teachers’ convention should provide opportunities for teachers to:

• explore their teaching practice,
• review their changing roles in the school,
• converse with peers,
• reflect on their experience,
• become aware of innovations in teaching,
• participate in a discussion of issues,
• participate in activities that support professional
• development taking place at the local level,
• renew commitment to lifelong learning
