Calgary, AB, February 3, 2009 – The Calgary Convention Centre Authority (CCCA) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Prime Consultant Services to assist the CCCA in selecting functional programmers with demonstrated expertise in developing convention and tradeshow facilities.
This is in response to the decision by the Board of the CCCA to take the first steps to site, design, build and operate expanded convention centre facilities to compliment the existing facilities in downtown Calgary.
“Regardless of when construction might begin in the future, planning for the future is essential if the Calgary Convention Centre Authority is to remain competitive in the convention business,” said Chair Laurel Wood. “Other convention centre facilities across Canada and the United States are expanding, and we need to look to the future as well. This is the first step,” she added.
In November of last year, City Council approved funding in the amount of $156,000 to begin this process, noted Alderman Bob Hawkesworth, Council's representative on the CCCA Board.
The RFP will lead to the selection of a Prime Consulting Team to assist the CCCA in selecting a potential site for expanded facilities, as well as develop the Master Plan and building design. It is anticipated that a report on their activities will be submitted to the Board of the CCCA and City Council by the end of the year.
An independent Selection Panel, Chaired by Mr. Bob Holmes, will make a recommendation on the successful applicant to the CCCA Board by the end of May.
